Tyrewise Stewardship Fee Info

At Tyre Supplies, we are dedicated to providing our customers with quality products and ensuring that our business practices align with environmental sustainability. With the introduction of Tyrewise, New Zealand's first regulated product stewardship scheme, we want to keep you informed about the Tyre Stewardship fee and its implications for you as our valued customer.

What is Tyrewise?

Tyrewise is a groundbreaking initiative designed to address the environmental impact of end-of-life tyres. As of March 1, 2024, new regulations will come into effect, establishing a tyre stewardship fee. This fee replaces the ad hoc disposal charges previously faced by tyre fitters, fleet operators, and the public.

What is the Tyre Stewardship Fee?

The Tyre Stewardship fee is a charge applied to all regulated tyres, whether loose or attached to a vehicle. This fee is aimed at managing the environmental impact of tyres at the end of their life cycle. Tyre Supplies is required to clearly show how much the Tyre Stewardship fee is on your receipt when purchasing tyres, and the fee will be automatically added at the cart.

Why Tyrewise?

End-of-life tyres, when not managed properly, can pose environmental challenges. Tyrewise ensures that tyres are treated responsibly, from collection through processing, creating valuable resources for our communities and minimizing harm.

How Much is the Fee?

The Tyre Stewardship fee is calculated based on the weight and type of tyre.  Tyre Supplies does not mark up this tarrif. Please see below how much each tarrif costs:

Tarrif Price (incl. GST)
T1 $2.30
T2 $3.83
T3 $7.65
T4 $14.54
T5 $15.30
T6 $19.88
T7 $24.47
T8 $27.53
T9 $32.12
T10 $33.65
T11 $39.01
T12 $61.95
T13 $177.42
T14 $484.09

What Does it Cover?

The fees collected will support various activities, including tyre collection services, incentives for processing and manufacturing tyre-derived products, research and development grants, and the management of Tyrewise, including compliance and enforcement. The Ministry for the Environment will also monitor the scheme.
